Origin: Hamilton, ON
Genres: Country/Roots/Soul Years Active: 2013-Present Website: www.mackenzieleighmeyer.com Short Bio: Launched into the music scene after winning the 2013 Hamilton Music Awards Rising Star Competition, Mackenzie Leigh Meyer can be found all over Ontario performing at major festivals and calling “home” to many of southern Ontario’s A-list country music night clubs. Last year alone she spent 336 hours performing over 75 gigs. Mackenzie certainly made 2019 a major year. Kicking things off with a “Golden Buzzer” performance and 2nd place win in The Next Country Music Star, Meyer found herself claiming emerging artists slots on many of country music’s favourite stages, including Havelock Jamboree, Boots and Hearts, Lucknow’s Music in The Fields, Hagersville Rocks and Country Wild Fest; who’s founder referred to her as “the best female voice in Canadian country music”. All elements that got her nominated as November’s CMA Ontario “Artist of the Month”. Her debut EP Dive Bar Diva which she released in May 2018 features renowned producer Ken Scott (David Bowie) who commented “watch out Carrie Underwood” after producing her single “Should Have Known”. The EP's flaunts all of the diverse and dynamic sides that comprise Mackenzie. It soars through the many sub-genres of modern country music; ranging all the way from the vulnerable-americana "Your Company" to her confident, attitude-riddled-blues "Hope You're Lonely", and rounds off with her poignant, emotional ballad "More than a Memory". It's songwriting that garnered Meyer a nomination for "Roots Artist of the Year" at the 2019 CMA Ontario Awards and continues to foreshadow a promising career for this up and comer. |
